Medical Monday – World Breastfeeding Week

Medical Monday – World Breastfeeding Week

As a doula, you learn that compassion and understanding are the best ways to support a new mom, and that also pertains to her choice of how she feeds her baby.  However, the largest portion of my training was focused on breastfeeding support.  World Breastfeeding Week is in its 25th year and works to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies all over the world.  For those who do nurse, I have put together a list of some of my favorite nursing accessories.

Recent data from the CDC shows that 3 out of every 4 moms start out breastfeeding, but that percentage drops to less than 15% by 6 months.  It shows that the majority of new moms actually WANT to breastfeed, but many lack the support and face too many challenges to sustain it.  Trust me when I tell you, it gets easier.  That being said, it’s more about how YOU feel and what will, in turn, make you more comfortable as a new mom.  Your baby, your body, your choice.
