In the spirit of the season, we are continuing the theme of last week’s Monday Muse with some of our favorite holiday movies and characters, and Buddy the Elf is at the top of that list.
I vividly remember going to see this movie in the theater with some of my nieces and nephews in 2003 and loved it as much as they did. My sister-in-law almost went into labor she was laughing so hard! Take a story about a grown man who thinks he’s an elf, who then passes through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then walks through the Lincoln Tunnel and that elf is Will Ferrell in yellow tights!? Mic drop. Now, it’s one of my favorite holiday movies to watch with my own family. From his love for all things sugary (“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.”), to his epic Central Park snowball fight, to his standoff with the department store Santa (“You stink. You smell like beef and cheese! You don’t smell like Santa. You sit on a throne of lies!”), the laughs are endless. Not much makes me happier than hearing my kids belly laugh while watching – especially the first time they experienced that endless belch “DID YOU HEAR THAT?!”
So, pick a good, cold night, get cozy as a fam, and turn on Elf. Remember, the best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.
