This week’s Monday Muse is founder of the educational website/blog Homegrown Friends and author, Meredith Magee Donnelly. With a Masters in Education, Donnelly is a former progressive preschool and kindergarten teacher in New York City.
A busy mom of three, Donnelly, who now resides in West Hartford, CT, has created a blog where she showcases her passion for early childhood education, cooking and motherhood. In her own words, the website is a place where readers will find “hands-on, process-oriented activities that focus on the whole child.” She is a big proponent of fostering the education of childrens’ social and emotional development, prior to intellectual development, which is evident in her creative, fun lessons and activities.
Recently, Meredith co-wrote the book, Exploring Books Through Play: Friendship, Acceptance & Empathy (available in print through Amazon or eBook), that celebrates play-based learning with 50 unique, hands-on activities that explore social and emotional development, literacy, art, science, mathematics, sensory exploration, gross motor development and fine motor skills. The activities are inspired by 10 children’s books. Her book can be used in both home or school settings, for large or small groups, and for parents, caregivers or teachers. She covers a lot of learning scenarios for everyone!
As if a constantly updated blog/website, social media accounts, and book aren’t enough to keep this busy lady even busier, she also offers classes held in West Hartford.
Toddler Time focuses on experimenting and messy fun, while Preschool Book Club has children explore books through art and hands-on activities. Art Exploration allows children to create and experiment using new and different forms of materials.
